워싱턴 광장 (Washington Square Park)

뉴욕의 Greenwich Village에 위치한 공원으로

조지 워싱턴 대통령의 취임 100 주년을 기념하기 위해서 1889년에 조성된 공원 

.

원곡은 Washington Square로 1963년 Village Stompers의 연주로 발표 되어 세계적으로 힛트 하였다

그후 이 곡에 가사가 붙여져 미국에서 꽤 유행하게 되었다.

그리고 국내 가수와 보컬팀들이 앞 다투어 취입했다.

We cannonballed into New York

on good old US 1

Till up ahead we saw the arch

a-gleamin' bright in the sun

or the old Rock Island Line?

Or how's about the dust-bowl

이시스터즈

김천숙, 이정자, 김명자 김씨둘 이씨 한 명으로 구성된 이시스터즈 

팀은 김씨 성이 둘이었지만 이들을 피하기 위해 이시스터즈라 했다고 한다.

 

밝고 경쾌한 하모니에 고음이 특히 매력적이었던 3인조 여성 트리오 이시스터즈.

이들은 쇼오브쇼단의 주축이 되어 활동하던 중 이시스터즈 이름으로

64년, '워싱턴 광장'을 발표하며 급부상 한다.

마치 '톡'쏘는 콜라 맛처럼 매우 짜릿짜릿한 하모니를 구사하던 이시스터즈의 등장은 소리의 변화로

대변되는 60년대의 상징이기도 하다.
